Claudia Dharamshi, female artist with red hair smiling and sitting on a green couch, holding a black and white lurcher, in a room with white paneled walls adorned with framed line art drawings of dogs.

For the past year, most of my studio time has been devoted to drawing longdogs, inspired by my lurcher, Bertie. He is an excellent model and makes great shapes. I like to capture his poses in a fluid and economic style. Ink and charcoal are particularly appealing mediums to me, full of expressive potential.

I enjoy the challenge of working directly in ink using a continuous line. Drawing a dog from observation lends itself to my drawing process which is intuitive and spontaneous. I hope to capture character as well as likeness in my drawings. I was delighted to have one of my lurcher drawings exhibited in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2025.

My other favourite subjects are gardens and foliage, I love to make colourful and impressionistic paintings of beautiful verdant spaces. My process starts with plein air sketches and paintings which are developed into larger work in the studio.

“Claudia is a colourist painter with an impressionistic style. There is calligraphic liquidity in her figurative and abstract forms and brushed shapes. A spontaneous fluid sketch process enlivens her work. Her plein air paintings are interpretations and often include an element of imagination. She aims to share her sensation of a space with the viewer.” John Meaker, Abbotsbury Landscape Festival
